History
Peasants typically carried daggers because they were light, easy to carry, and extremely versatile, while knights and crusaders favoured them because it meant that one could always have a weapon close at hand. Arming daggers, in particular, were popular among most medieval soldiers and warriors, while more ornate blades remained the providence of nobility and royalty.
