It features the words SIGILLUM MILITUM TEMPLI XPISTI (Seal of the Knights of Christ) emblazoned around the pommel encircling a Templar Cross with knotwork decoration. The guard also features the Cross Pattée and heraldic imagery on the quillons, and the “Two Knights on One Horse” (said to symbolise the poverty of the order) symbol at the centre of the guard.
